One person was injured when an SUV sheared a utility pole Sunday afternoon in Brush Valley.
Firefighters said the driver of the vehicle was traveling on state Route 192 around 1:30 p.m. when the SUV left the roadway and crashed into the utility pole.
Miles Township assistant fire chief Randy Auman said the pole snapped upon the impact and fell on the vehicle?s door, pinning the driver inside.
Initial scanner reports indicated that firefighters would have to wait ? perhaps more than a half hour ? until power to the pole could be shut off before attempting to free the injured driver.
Thinking quickly, however, firefighters were able to secure the pole and safely carry the driver out of the back of the vehicle after removing some seats. The driver, who was not identified, was reportedly taken to a local hospital for treatment.
State police at Rockview responded, but did not release information about the crash Sunday.
Both lanes of the rural stretch of roadway east of Rebersburg were closed temporarily while emergency crews and the power company responded.
