Onlooker Betsy Forsythe took these photos of a fire that destroyed a home, garage, three vehicles and killed a cat and other pets at 5551 Penns Valley Road late Monday.
The homeowners, John and Chris Fultz, were away on vacation at the time of the blaze.
Millheim Fire Chief Delmer Homan, who returned to the scene this morning when a hot spot rekindled briefly, said it was a fast-moving blaze, with firefighters' efforts complicated by a gas line running to the kitchen of the one-story home.
Only a garage wall remained standing this morning, although Homan said the couple had a home-based business in the basement, an area that appeared to have sustained mostly smoke damage.
Firefighters were on the scene until about 2 a.m. today.
